The Premier Soccer League has praised supporters for turning out in force for Sunday’s Harare Derby, while urging fans to stamp out missile throwing and other forms of misconduct.

In a press release issued on Monday, 11 May, the PSL thanked football fans across the country for their “passionate support” since the start of the season, singling out the Dynamos versus CAPS United clash for special mention.

More than 25,000 paying fans packed the stadium for the Harare Derby, creating what the PSL described as an “incredible atmosphere” that demonstrated “the power, passion and unity of our football family”.

The league also thanked clubs, partners and stakeholders for ensuring matchdays run smoothly, reaffirming its commitment to a “safe, secure and enjoyable” environment that protects the reputation of clubs and the game.

However, the PSL sounded a warning over fan behaviour. Communications and Media Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare said supporters must refrain from missile throwing and other misconduct, noting that such incidents bring “unnecessary negative attention”, impose a “significant financial burden on clubs”, and damage the spirit of the game.

“Let us all continue to play our part by reporting bad behaviour or unethical conduct whenever we see it, while supporting our teams in a responsible and respectful manner,” Bare said.

She further called on fans to “keep bringing the energy, keep supporting football, and keep filling our stadiums as we continue building something special together”.

CAPS United beat Dynamos 2-1 in Sunday’s derby.
