South African President Cyril Ramaphosa flew into Zimbabwe on Sunday for what State media described as a “private visit”. He was seen at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Precabe farm in Kwekwe.
Images of Ramaphosa with Mnangagwa and businessmen linked to ZANU-PF were widely shared on social media by party-aligned influencers.
The visit came amid rising xenophobia in South Africa and growing political tension in Zimbabwe over the ZANU-PF-backed Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 (CAB3). The Bill seeks to extend Mnangagwa’s time in office.
State media gave little detail on the purpose of Ramaphosa’s trip to Precabe farm, which is known as a venue for Mnangagwa’s private meetings.
Late on Sunday, ZBC News reported that Mnangagwa and Ramaphosa had held talks and exchanged views on a range of issues.
“South African President Cyril Ramaphosa paid a private visit to President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa at his Precabe farm in Kwekwe, where the two leaders held discussions and exchanged views on a range of issues aimed at strengthening cooperation and growing the economies of the sister republics,” posted ZBC on its social media pages.
The South African leader appeared in social media images at a dam at Precabe farm. He was later seen touring the property with Mnangagwa allies, including ZANU-PF Central Committee members Kudakwashe Tagwirei and Tempter Tungwarara, as well as Wicknell Chivayo.
On Monday, Chivayo said he was part of a distinguished delegation of businessmen who received President Ramaphosa during his private visit and courtesy call on President Mnangagwa at Precabe farm in Kwekwe.
Chivayo said the two leaders toured the farm, viewed Mnangagwa’s Ankole cattle, and saw the fishing operations there.
“This visit has reflected the HISTORIC BONDS that unite Zimbabwe and South Africa. The relationship between the African National Congress (ANC) and ZANU-PF remains deeply rooted in a shared liberation history, forged through sacrifice, solidarity, and a common vision for FREEDOM and SELF-DETERMINATION. That legacy of BROTHERHOOD continues to manifest in political cooperation and mutual ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT,” wrote Chivayo.
Meanwhile, the South African Presidency said Ramaphosa’s visit to Zimbabwe was a working visit to meet Mnangagwa and discuss issues of shared and mutual interest between the two countries.
“HE President Cyril Ramaphosa, earlier today, undertook a working visit to the Republic of Zimbabwe for an engagement with his Zimbabwean counterpart, HE President Emmerson Mnangagwa, to discuss issues of mutual and bilateral interests.
“South Africa and Zimbabwe maintain a historical, political and dynamic trade relationship.
“In 2025, South African exports to Zimbabwe totalled about U$4.30 billion, with agricultural products and machinery dominating the majority of traded goods.”
