The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has dismissed a fake recruitment notice circulating on social media and warned members of the public against falling prey to misinformation and urged reliance on official communication channels.

In a statement issued on 29 April 2026, ZNA Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Hlengiwe Dube, clarified that the organisation has not released any advertisement for the recruitment of general duty soldiers for 2026.

She stressed that the circulating advert is fraudulent and does not originate from the army, warning that it should be disregarded in its entirety.

Colonel Dube further warned that individuals found falsely claiming to represent or conduct recruitment on behalf of the ZNA will face prosecution, as the army moves to protect the integrity of its enlistment processes.

The ZNA statement reads: “The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) would like to inform members of the public to be on the lookout for a fake ZNA recruitment advert circulating on social media platforms. The fake recruitment advert was flighted by some mischief makers who are circulating it to mislead and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

“In view of the foregoing, the ZNA would like to categorically state that the organisation has not flighted any general duty soldiers’ recruitment advert for 2026. In the same vein, the ZNA does not use social media platforms for the purpose of recruitment.

“The organisation uses formal communication channels such as electronic and print media. Members of the public are once again advised that the ZNA does not engage third parties for recruitment, nor do they charge a fee on applicants.

“Therefore, anyone caught associating themselves with recruiting in the ZNA will be prosecuted.

“Should anyone come across any suspicious characters masquerading as Army recruitment agents, they should immediately call on the following Military Police hotline numbers: 0712842318 and 0772258410. They must also report to the nearest Zimbabwe Republic Police station or any nearest military camp.”
