The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has reminded travellers and cross-border traders that the personal travellers’ rebate is US$200 per person per calendar month. Goods exceeding this threshold are subject to duty on the excess value.
In a notice issued on Monday, 13 April 2026, ZIMRA also said border processes are being strengthened to improve efficiency and promote fair trade.
“Bulk goods intended for resale or goods in commercial quantities are classified as commercial consignments and must be duty paid in full, and cleared through licensed clearing agents,” reads the notice.
“Commercial consignments of less than US$1000 in value can be duty paid at the ZIMRA counters without engagement of clearing agents.
“Engaging clearing agents for consignments of less than US$1000 in value is, however, encouraged as it allows for pre-clearance, greatly reducing border delays.”
ZIMRA said passengers will continue to be prioritised for faster processing, while commercial cargo will be handled separately through licensed clearing agents.
To avoid delays, ZIMRA added that travellers are encouraged to declare goods accurately, engage licensed clearing agents where necessary, and make use of pre-clearance facilities before arrival.
The authority said the measures are designed to facilitate trade while ensuring a smooth, fair and efficient border experience for all users.
