Dairibord Holdings Limited plans to install solar power plants at all its production sites to reduce the company’s dependence on the national electricity grid and lower its carbon emissions.
The group has already launched a solar plant at its Chipinge factory. The project was a success and will now serve as a blueprint for similar renewable energy projects across its other locations.
Dairibord chairman, Nobert Chiromo, said these energy projects represent a major milestone, not just for the company, but for the growth of renewable energy in Zimbabwe as a whole.
“On the energy front, we have reached a significant milestone with the commissioning of the Chipinge Solar Plant. This facility serves as the blueprint for our renewable energy transition, with plans already underway to roll out the same model across all our production sites to reduce grid dependency and carbon intensity,” Chiromo said.
The Chairman said the group is adopting cost optimisation and strategic procurement to mitigate the impact of imported inflation.
This follows a surge in fuel prices and production costs triggered by geopolitical volatility in the Middle East.
“Ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt global energy markets, driving fuel price increases that have cascading effects on logistics, production, and input costs across the economy, said Chiromo.
“These developments have introduced significant imported inflationary pressures, placing strain on consumer purchasing power and business operating costs.
“The board is closely monitoring these developments and has put in place proactive measures to mitigate their impact, including cost optimisation initiatives and strategic procurement practices to safeguard the Company’s operational resilience.”
