The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) says it intends to work with striking nurses and explore the possibility of a broader general strike alongside other labour bodies.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 24 March, ARTUZ expressed deep concern over the rising cost of living, particularly soaring transport costs and stagnant civil service wages.
The union said these economic pressures are leaving civil servants increasingly unable to carry out their duties effectively.
ARTUZ said its leadership has resolved to implement partial work stoppages, two days per week, withdrawal from non-essential duties, and, if necessary, escalate to a full strike.
The union also called for an urgent engagement with the government on salary reviews and transport subsidies to ease the burden on teachers.
