Chiredzi Government Primary School has banned unregistered transporters from ferrying its pupils following the tragic death of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) learner, allegedly at the hands of her transporter.

The decision was announced by the school head, Supa Saiti, during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held last Wednesday.

Saiti said that all transporters must now be registered with the school, which will issue them official identity cards. He said:

“You all remember that incident which happened, so we have resolved that we no longer condone any unregistered transporter to carry our children.

“All transporters should register with the school. We will issue them identity cards.”

Outgoing School Development Committee (SDC) chairperson, Artwell Muzvarwandoga, said the school plans to install CCTV soon to monitor transporters dropping off and picking up pupils.

Earlier this year, Steadfast Makondo, an ECD learner at the school, went missing and was found dead the following day in a bushy area about 500 metres from the school.

May her soul rest in peace. The school has done a good thing.
