A 39-year-old man from the Chief Neshuro area in Mwenezi, Masvingo Province, died at his girlfriend’s homestead after reportedly falling ill while visiting her last week.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the incident to TellZim News and urged members of the public to seek medical attention whenever they experience persistent health problems. He said:

“We urge members of the public to seek medical attention early whenever they experience serious symptoms to avoid excessive consumption of alcohol, especially when feeling unwell.”

Police said that the now deceased, Kelvin Tarungirira, left home on 3 March 2026 at around 2 PM, saying he was heading to Rutenga to look for work.

However, he did not return home and instead went to his girlfriend’s residence in Gwareva Village under Chief Chitanga.

On 6 March at around 7 AM, Tarungirira reportedly complained of chest and stomach pains.

Despite feeling unwell, he is said to have spent the day drinking Marula beer with his girlfriend.

The following day, his condition reportedly worsened, and he failed to make it to the bus stop to travel back home. He then returned to his girlfriend’s house, where he rested.

At around 9 PM, Tarungirira reportedly began groaning in pain before later dying at the homestead.

Police were informed, and his body was taken to Neshuro District Hospital for a post-mortem.
