A 31‑year‑old man from Dema, under Chief Seke, has been jailed for 20 years by the Chitungwiza Regional Magistrates’ Court after being found guilty of raping his neighbour’s four‑year‑old daughter earlier this month.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the offence occurred on 8 February 2026, shortly after the man had helped the victim’s family move household property.
Prosecutors said he later lured the child into his rented room while she was playing with other children and raped her when they were alone. The NPA said:
“The victim’s mother noticed blood discharges while bathing the child later that evening.
“Although the child initially provided a different explanation out of fear, she eventually opened up to other adults about the assault.”
Villagers caught the suspect and handed him over to the police, leading to his arrest and court appearance.
The NPA urged parents and guardians to stay alert and encouraged survivors of sexual offences to report cases quickly so that offenders can be brought to justice.
