United States President Donald Trump criticised the Grammy Awards on Monday and threatened legal action against host Trevor Noah over jokes made during the ceremony, including comments linking him to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The Grammy Awards are the world’s leading music awards, held annually by the Recording Academy in the US to recognise outstanding achievements across genres such as pop, hip-hop, classical, and jazz.
Epstein was an American financier and convicted sex offender who ran a large sex trafficking network involving underage girls and influential associates. He was arrested in 2019 on federal charges and died by suicide in jail while awaiting trial.
Trump and Epstein were socially connected for many years, particularly during the 1980s and 1990s. Trump has denied any involvement in Epstein’s crimes.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump called the Grammy Awards the worst and said the show was almost unwatchable.
His post referred to Noah’s monologue, in which the comedian made jokes about Trump, including linking him to Epstein. Trump demanded that Noah retract the remarks or face legal action. Wrote Trump:
“The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable! CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer.
“The host, Trevor Noah, whoever he may be, is almost as bad as Jimmy Kimmel at the Low Ratings Academy Awards. Noah said, INCORRECTLY about me, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!!
“I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media.
“Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast. It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$.
“Ask Little George Slopadopolus, and others, how that all worked out. Also ask CBS! Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you! President DJT.”
