Warriors forward Tawanda Chirewa has joined League One side Barnsley on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers until the end of the season.

Chirewa has made ten Premier League appearances for Wolves since joining from Ipswich Town in 2023, but has struggled for regular game time at Molineux, managing only two substitute outings this season.

The 22-year-old, who has also spent time on loan at Derby County and Huddersfield Town, becomes Barnsley’s fifth signing of the January transfer window.

He follows the arrivals of Charlie Lennon from Middlesbrough and free agent Eoghan O’Connell on permanent deals, along with loan signings Owen Goodman from Crystal Palace and Scott Banks from St Pauli.

Barnsley head coach Conor Hourihane said Chirewa’s Premier League experience and versatility would be valuable to the club in the final stretch of the season. He said:

“We’re really pleased to bring Tawanda in. He’s a young player with genuine top-level experience, and that’s a big asset for us.

“His Premier League exposure and ability to play across the front line give us another dimension going into the final stretch of the season.”

Barnsley are 15th in League One, having won only once in their last seven league matches.

League One is the third tier of English football, below the Premier League and the Championship, and has 24 clubs.

Chirewa has earned 14 caps for Zimbabwe since making his debut against Lesotho in 2024.
