Zimbabwe take on Angola in their second Group B match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) this Friday at 14:30 CAT at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in Morocco.
Both teams go into the fixture having lost their opening games: Angola fell 2-1 to South Africa, while Zimbabwe were beaten by the same scoreline by Egypt on Monday.
A win for either side would improve their chances of progressing to the knockout stages, or at least securing a spot as one of the four best third-placed teams.
For Zimbabwe, a victory is vital to avoid early elimination and to achieve a historic first progression into the AFCON knockout round.
The Warriors are appearing at the finals for the sixth time, having competed in 2004, 2006, 2017, 2019, and 2021.
Zimbabwe have never advanced beyond the group stage. Across 16 matches at past AFCON tournaments, the Warriors have recorded three wins, two draws, and 11 defeats.
Friday’s match is therefore a must-win if Zimbabwe are to make history at the ongoing tournament, which runs from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 in Morocco.
