Harare-based preacher Alistar Chibanda says he has learned from his mistakes following the Doek and Slay controversy, but insists he will continue using social media to spread his message.

Chibanda was briefly taken into police custody last week after the Doek and Slay organiser reported him for alleged cyberbullying.

The preacher had posted a series of messages, images and videos on social media in which he allegedly criticised and disparaged the women’s event.

In one post, Chibanda claimed that no “wife material” goes to Doek and Slay parties. In another, he condemned a group of women pictured touching a male security guard in what he described as inappropriate behaviour. He wrote on Facebook:

“Pa picture apa madzimai anga akubata a male security guard chibharo pajekerere ku doek & slay party. Kudhakwa zvekusvika pakuda kubata murume.

“Ndihwo hujoki nehunzenza hwakarambwa na Mwari uhu, and yet some are defending such evil. We must condemn this indecency in our societies.”

On Monday, 22 December 2025, Chibanda also said he will continue preaching against the false prosperity gospel, which he says has increasingly infiltrated Christianity. He said:

“In Christianity, many pastors are preaching a fake gospel, a gospel of prosperity. This is why we have so many people who do not know the truth.

“Many now think that the church is a business rekuita mari. No one feels God’s fire burning in their hearts today, because it’s all about money and not God…

“Today’s churches have chosen Mammon, and this is why their sermons are all about money.

“When we rebuke and correct the errors, they see it as a wrong approach or wrong preaching because they are used to being pampered in sin as long as they are making cash.”

Chibanda acknowledged that he mishandled his comments on the Doek and Slay event but insisted that he will remain true to his message. He said:

“My only mistake was to mention the names of people and the brand names of organisations. We have learnt our lessons and corrected such errors; we thank God for that learning curve. But the message is still the same message of repentance…

“I will not stop preaching what Jesus called me to preach. Nothing can stop me from doing that.

“In Zimbabwe, preaching REPENTANCE and remissions of sins is not a crime, but talking negatively about brand names is a crime. This is what we learnt.

“The law of Zimbabwe did not stop me from preaching the truth; they simply stopped me from committing crimes of tarnishing or harassing registered brand names.

“I am not yet in a capacity to say more at the moment, but in 2026 I will be more brutal preaching the truth, the message of REPENTANCE!”
