A 29-year-old Zimbabwean man, Evans Sivechere, was arrested by Botswana police on Sunday at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport for 11 counts of fraud.

Botswana Police Service (BPS) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Near Bagali said in a statement on Tuesday, 25 November, that Sivechere, who is the director of Direction Migration (PTY) Ltd in Gaborone, appeared in the Village Magistrate Court on the same day.

He is accused of defrauding 11 people of more than P240,000 between October 2024 and 23 October 2025.

Sivechere and his company allegedly promised the victims jobs abroad and offered to process work permits on their behalf, but failed to deliver. Reads the statement:

“Victims reportedly submitted all the required documents and payments, only to later discover that they have been swindled, as the promised jobs never materialised.

“”The fraudulent promises reportedly involved job placements in several countries, including Ireland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Republic of Luxembourg, Republic of Finland, Republic of Poland and Greece.”

Assistant Commissioner Bagali said police investigators may bring more charges as the investigation continues.

Sivechere has been remanded in prison and is expected to appear in court again on 1 December 2025.

Bagali also warned the public to be cautious when dealing with migration or recruitment agencies, and to always check that they are legitimate before making any payments.
