Fourteen people were injured on Thursday morning when two kombis collided along Luveve Road in Bulawayo.

The impact was so severe that both vehicles were forced off the road and into nearby maize fields.

Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer, Mhlangano Moyo, told Chronicle that the accident occurred just past the Rio turnoff, with emergency services responding promptly.

He added that the force of the collision caused the two kombis to veer off the road before coming to rest in the fields. Said Moyo:

“Our crews attended a road traffic accident involving two commuter omnibuses that collided in the middle of Luveve Road.

“Both vehicles veered off the roadway and landed in the maize fields.

“We transported 14 injured patients to Mpilo Central Hospital, including a BCC employee who was seated in the front seat of one of the vehicles.”

Moyo said that Fire and Ambulance Services deployed three additional ambulances to assist with the response.

He urged motorists to exercise caution and appealed to all road users to give emergency personnel sufficient space to operate safely during incidents.
