The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed it will expand from 18 to 20 teams from the 2026 season, following a proposal from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).

The decision was made during an Extraordinary General Meeting, where the PSL also approved ZIFA’s plan to establish a National First Division League.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 18 November, Communications and Media Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare confirmed that relegation will be suspended for the 2025 season.

This means Kwekwe United, whose relegation had been confirmed two months ago, will retain its top-flight status for 2026.

The PSL added that it will accommodate newly promoted clubs, resulting in a temporary 22-team league for the 2026 season. From 2027, the league will adopt the planned 20-team structure.

Bare further said that the National First Division League will be implemented in phases, to become fully operational within the next three years.
