Two women from Chitungwiza have been convicted of stealing from churches after appearing before Harare magistrate Sharon Rakafa.
Glory Choto (50) and Violet Jaure (34), both unemployed and residents of Nyatsime Phase 2, were found guilty on three counts of theft.
Magistrate Rakafa ruled that the State had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt, citing overwhelming evidence and credible witness testimony.
According to State prosecutor Chyvonne Nhira, the pair first struck on 5 October 2025 at the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Church in Dzivarasekwa Extension.
They allegedly stole a laptop bag containing a Lenovo mini laptop, a black power bank, a black diary, cash books, three counter books and a flash drive.
The items were taken while the complainant, a member of the Zimbabwe National Army, had briefly stepped outside to answer a phone call.
The duo was later caught red-handed attempting to steal from a car at a United Methodist Church in Dzivarasekwa.
During that incident, they took a black and cream dress, a royal blue jersey, a blue and white doek, and baby diapers from a Toyota RunX belonging to Tafadzwa Chifamba, an employee of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority.
Court documents show that Chifamba had parked her car outside the church while attending a service.
Congregants who noticed the pair acting suspiciously conducted a search and discovered the stolen items in their possession, leading to their arrest.
