The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rains exceeding 50 mm, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, expected from Wednesday through Friday across much of the country.
In the advisory released on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, MSD indicated that Matabeleland North and South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan, and all Mashonaland provinces are likely to experience significant rainfall.
The department attributed the expected downpours to a thick cloud mass approaching Zimbabwe’s western borders from Botswana. The MSD said:
“A thick cloud is approaching the western borders of the country from Botswana. It is expected to be coupled by moisture from the south-east.
“This will result in heavy rainfall (exceeding 50mm) as well as strong winds in provinces such as northern parts of Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Manicaland, and Harare Metropolitan Provinces, effective from the afternoon of Wednesday 05 November till Friday.
“There is a chance of flash floods in flood prone areas, and river basins. Roads may also be slippery and visibility reduced by rainfall, thus requiring a need for increased braking distance.
“There may also be fallen trees and powerlines. Therefore, the public is advised to take precautionary measure as advised by the Civil Protection Unit.”
