Riot police and other State security agents stormed the SAPES Trust offices in Belgravia, Harare, on Tuesday, blocking a press conference organised by several opposition figures.

The briefing was intended to outline citizens’ responses to ZANU-PF’s plan to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s tenure to 2030.

Opposition politicians, including Tendai Biti, Job Sikhala, Munyaradzi Gwisai, Jameson Timba and Jacob Ngarivhume, had convened the event.

It was originally scheduled at SAPES Trust, but the venue was targeted in a firebomb attack in the early hours of Tuesday.

Undeterred, the politicians rescheduled the press conference at an alternative Mt Pleasant location, only for it to be interrupted by police once again.

A similar briefing in Bulawayo was also disrupted, with opposition figures prevented from addressing journalists.
