A 48-year-old man from Nyanga, identified as Zealot Nyagato, was found deceased at the homestead of his former partner, Alice Museta, following an apparent suicide.

Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the acting spokesperson for the Manicaland provincial police, confirmed the incident, saying it occurred on October 15 at the Nyajezi resettlement area under Chief Saunyama.

Nyagato reportedly visited Museta at her home around 2 PM, but their conversation became contentious, leading to Museta ending their relationship.

After this, Museta left for Charamba Business Centre, while Nyagato remained outside the kitchen hut, waiting for her return.

Later that evening, Museta’s children offered Nyagato a meal, which he declined. They eventually went to bed, leaving him alone.

The next morning, around 5 AM, as the children prepared for school, they discovered Nyagato’s lifeless body hanging from a tree in the yard. They promptly notified a neighbour, Edith Kennedy, who then informed Museta.

The incident was reported to the police in Nyanga, who arrived at the scene, removed the body, and transported it to Nyanga District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The results confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging.
