Bikita South MP Energy Mutodi has been removed from his position as chairperson of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion after accusing Finance Ministry secretary George Guvamatanga of corruption.

Mutodi claimed in Parliament last week that Guvamatanga was demanding kickbacks of between five and ten per cent from ministries, government departments and contractors before releasing budgeted funds.

Guvamatanga dismissed the allegations, accusing Mutodi of attempting to extort and blackmail him.

The MP later retracted his statements and apologised to the treasury secretary, admitting he could not provide any evidence to support his claims.

In a letter dated 7 October 2025, Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda confirmed that the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO) had resolved to remove Mutodi from his position. Mudenda wrote:

“This serves to notify you that pursuant to Standing Order No. 19 of the National Assembly, the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO) has resolved to terminate your tenure as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion with immediate effect.

“Consequently, all benefits and entitlements attendant upon the said role shall likewise be discontinued forthwith.”

Reacting to his dismissal, Mutodi posted on X that his life is one of suffering, saying only God knows.
