Ngezi Platinum Stars Football Club issued a statement on Sunday, 05 0ctober, following the incident that occurred during their match against Dynamos at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday, 4 October 2025.
Head coach Takesure Chiragwi was caught on camera slapping one of his own players during a league match against Dynamos.
Chiragwi struck midfielder Macdonald Makuwe in the 34th minute, shortly after Dynamos equalised through an own goal by Brooklyn Katumba.
The coach, who was furious and believed there had been a foul in the build-up, lost his temper on the touchline.
When Makuwe tried to calm him down, Chiragwi lashed out and hit him, prompting other members of the technical team to step in and restrain him.
The club said it is working closely with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and conducting its own investigation to get a full understanding of what happened. The statement reads:
“We would like to address the incident that took place during our match against Dynamos FC at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday the 4th of October 2025.
“We’ve seen the statement from the Premier Soccer League and are working closely with them as we also look into what happened ourselves.
“Our first priority is to get a clear and complete picture of the events. Our Club is built on a foundation of respect, professionalism, and discipline.
“These aren’t just words to us; they’re core to who we are, on and off the pitch. We know football is a game of passion, but we also believe that composure and respect for everyone involved must always come first.
“We’re currently engaging with all relevant parties to ensure our response is fair and true to our values.
“To allow for a thorough process, we won’t be making any further detailed comments until both the League’s and our own internal investigations are complete.
“To our incredible supporters, our valued sponsors and partners, and the wider football family: we are truly sorry for the disappointment this situation has caused. It’s a stark reminder of the responsibility we all carry to uphold the spirit of the game.
“We are committed to learning from this, and we will continue to stand for the values that unite us: unity, respect, and professionalism.”
