Scottland extended their lead at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League to four points after a 1-0 victory over Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium on Friday.
Tymon Machope’s sixth-minute strike proved decisive, securing all three points for the visitors and reinforcing their position at the summit of the league table.
Scottland coach Tonderai Ndiraya described the early goal as a major boost for his side, helping to set the tone for the rest of the match. He said:
“I think it was a very exciting match . We played on a good pitch and the boys enjoyed the turf. We have good players who enjoy playing on such pitches.
“I think the experience and quality in our team carried the day, and it worked according to our plan of getting an early goal.”
Chicken Inn head coach Joey Antipas said his players showed Scottland too much respect during the first half. He said:
“Firstly, I thought we gave them too much respect in the first half. They scored an early goal. The game had few chances, but most of the chances came our way.
“We had a good game, but that’s the nature of the game. Otherwise, we just have to keep going. The struggle continues.”
Scottland have now accumulated 59 points, sitting four ahead of closest rivals Simba Bhora, who have two games in hand.
On Saturday, MWOS will aim to close the gap on league leaders Scottland when they host Green Fuel.
Other Saturday fixtures include TelOne hosting Kwekwe United at Ascot Stadium, Manica Diamonds taking on Triangle United at Sakubva Stadium, and defending champions Simba Bhora facing relegation-threatened CAPS United at Wadzanayi Stadium.
Dynamos, still in the relegation zone despite an unbeaten run under head coach Kelvin Kaindu, host Ngezi Platinum Stars at Rufaro Stadium.
ZPC Kariba and Bikita Minerals meet at Nyamhunga Stadium, while on Sunday, Herentals College entertain Highlanders at Rufaro Stadium.
Meanwhile, Simba Bhora’s postponed match against Triangle United, delayed due to their CAF Champions League commitments, has been rescheduled for 12 October 2025.
