Former Norton member of Parliament (MP), Temba Mliswa, has been accused on social media of involvement in the death of activist Patson Dzamara, after Mliswa’s ex-partner, Susan Mutami, posted explosive allegations on X (formerly Twitter). The claims have reignited public interest in the long-running Dzamara saga, but so far remain unsubstantiated.
Mutami’s thread names Mliswa directly, saying:
“@TembaMliswa you should die motherfucker… Patson Dzamara’s killer.”
The post also contains profanities and broad personal attacks, and repeats other grievances Mutami has publicly aired about their relationship and their child.
What is established
- Patson Dzamara died of colon cancer in August 2020, a fact reported widely by local and international media.
- Patson was the brother of Itai Dzamara, a prominent activist who was forcibly abducted in March 2015 and has not been seen since; human-rights groups, including Amnesty International, regard Itai’s case as an enforced disappearance.
- There is no public record — as of this writing — of any police charge or official statement linking Mliswa to Patson’s death. No independent forensic or legal evidence has been published to corroborate Mutami’s allegation.
Context and Reaction
Mliswa and Mutami have a history of public disputes. Past reports show mutual accusations and at least one police case Mliswa opened against Mutami over earlier statements. Those prior clashes form part of the backdrop to the current allegation.
Patson Dzamara was the younger brother of journalist and activist Itai Dzamara, who was forcibly abducted in March 2015 and has never been seen since. Itai’s disappearance remains one of Zimbabwe’s most high-profile unresolved cases, and is treated by Amnesty International and other rights groups as an enforced disappearance. Human-rights organisations and campaigners around the Dzamara cases continue to press for full, impartial investigations into Itai’s abduction and for answers about any credible new evidence that emerges.
