Chinese President Xi Jinping and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Thursday announced the upgrading of bilateral relations to an “all-weather community with a shared future.”

The declaration was made during Xi’s meeting with Mnangagwa, who is in China to attend commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

The phrase “all-weather community with a shared future” is a diplomatic term used by China to describe its deep, resilient, and strategic partnerships, especially with countries in the Global South like those in Africa.

“All-weather” implies that the relationship is stable and enduring, regardless of political changes, global crises, or economic fluctuations.

The “shared future” part reflects a mutual commitment to development, modernisation, and prosperity. It’s about aligning long-term visions, like Africa’s Agenda 2063, with China’s Belt and Road Initiative and other global strategies.
