Former Warriors striker Tendai Ndoro, found dead on Monday in his Sandton, Johannesburg apartment, died a man reportedly bitter and lonely.

Those close to Ndoro said he felt abandoned by family and friends, particularly following the collapse of his marriage to South African Thando Maseko.

The 40-year-old, who battled diabetes, was ironically trying to rebuild his life at the time of his death.

Messages shared with H-Metro paint a picture of a man struggling with isolation and loneliness. In one message sent to a friend, he wrote:

“Since I moved into the new apartment (in Sandton) I never had visitors.

“The divorce thing made me to stay away from a lot of things, rebuilding and taking it slow but surely.”

In another message, Ndoro wrote: “Pain has built me a lot, I fought a silent battle alone, no support from family and friends.”

Reports had suggested that Ndoro had registered all his assets under Maseko’s name, leaving him heartbroken and financially strained.

At one point, he even returned home and attempted to secure a contract with Simba Bhora, a club owned by Simba Ndoro.

However, in an interview, Ndoro denied these claims, insisting he had not handed over all his assets to Maseko. He said at the time:

“To be honest, I want to clear my ex-wife (Maseko)’s name on this. Nothing of that sort happened. I didn’t lose anything, she didn’t take anything.

“When things happen, we like to point fingers yet we don’t know what would have happened because with my ex-wife, we had a very peaceful divorce.

“We had assets, it was a matter of take this and I take this. She is clean, she didn’t do anything wrong.”

Last week, Ndoro and a friend had planned to renew their driving licences in Pretoria.

The friend said Ndoro complained of a persistent headache and nosebleeds. That was their last conversation.

Calls and messages went unanswered, and his phone eventually went offline. After nearly a week of silence, concerned friends visited his apartment.

Caretakers opened the door to find Ndoro’s lifeless body on the floor. A postmortem is underway to determine the cause of death.
