Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star and team mate to the now deceased Diogo Jota, said today he’s finding it difficult to accept Jota is gone.
Aged only 28, Jota died yesterday in a car accident in Spain, along with his brother Andre.
Mo Salah and Jota were teammates at Liverpool since Jota joined the club in 2020.
Said Salah in a post on X:
“I am truly lost for words.
Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me of going back to Liverpool after the break. Team-mates come and go but not like this.
It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.
My thoughts are with his wife, his children, and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children. Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten.”

Salah played a total 151 matches with Jota at Liverpool. Jota was a key player in the Premier League title victory last season.
The accident happened while Jota and his brother were on their way back to Liverpool. Doctors advised jota to not use an airplane because on some minor surgery he had undergone. He therefore had to travel by car.
The two were travelling in a Lamborghini. One of the tyres on their car burst while they were overtaking another car in Spain. Their car then went into flames and both died on the spot.
