The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has established 1,804 mobile grain collection centres across all wards to facilitate grain deliveries.
GMB Chief Executive Officer Edson Badarai said on Wednesday that the centres are part of the Grain Producer Input Scheme and Social Welfare collection programme. Said Badarai:
Farmers benefiting from Presidential inputs are encouraged to deliver 10 kg to GMB to create a local SGR. At these sites, farmers can also deliver surplus grain to the GMB.
As the GMB continues to facilitate grain mobilisation for various programs, it encourages farmers to utilise the services provided.
On Tuesday, the government announced that Zimbabwe is expected to record a grain surplus of approximately 812,000 tonnes, with cereal reserves projected to reach 3.01 million tonnes.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere told journalists in Harare that the country’s annual grain requirement is 2.2 million tonnes.
