Opposition MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has set an ultimatum of five months within which Zimbabwe must address the political crisis which his party says is the cause of the socio-economic crisis in the country.
Addressing party supporters at Chisamba grounds in Mutare recently, Chamisa said his party was giving dialogue a chance hoping that the ruling ZANU PF will agree to it or the MDC would take other options. He added:
We are getting near freedom, we are near Canaan. We have only five months to finish the issue of politics in the country. We need 2020 (next year) to clear political challenges we are facing as a country. We can’t be a country that is in a perennial election mode.
His remarks came after the ZANU PF’s 18th Annual People’s Conference at which president Emmerson Mnangagwa expressed the will to have a dialogue with all stakeholders, but not outside POLAD which the MDC rejected.
There has been a standoff between ZANU PF and MDC since last year’s elections which the MDC says were rigged to put Mnangagwa in power. Analysts claim that the impasse has immensely contributed to the socio-economic crisis in the country.

Sounding negative at times is not a good thing I must say but simply telling it as it is cannot be termed negative. Observation of our political leaders and their performance must be the norm for us the povo. How else can we pick who is who. Our interests must come first. Ever since white rule to now , our so called leaders have disappointed in more ways than ever . From colonial rule to recent leaders only interested in their own survival at the expense of their citizens. With no disrespect to the opposition , not enough has been done to pressure this regime as they did against Smith. Pretending to be in opposition while at the same time sleeping with the enemy should not be allowed . We are in opposition not appease a regime not interested in bringing the people up to a level which would be the envy of the world.
We should be proud of our country as a whole not just happy when a few achieve at something. The opposition simply can not say the regime is illegitimate , prove it overwhelmingly . Talking and doing is completely different. While the opposition waddles along ZanuPF will stand their ground baying they are legitimate . As it stands POLAD means nothing to us but what we need is a true opposition party not tainted by the gravy train or affiliated to any party . A young party without any baggage would lead our country to prosperity . Long live Zimbabwe , God bless Zimbabwe.
