Chitungwiza Municipality Incur Residents’ Wrath After Conducting Workshop In Kadoma

Chitungwiza Municipality has reportedly been criticised by residents for abuse of public funds and failure to deliver on expected services. The local authority is reported to have spent over ZW$400 000 on a series of workshops.

ZBC News reports that the latest team building workshop that was held in Kadoma attracted residents’ fury. Every participant at the workshop is said to have been paid an average of ZW$10 000.

One of the residents who spoke to ZBC News lamented over poor service delivery. The resident said:

We have had enough of this sewage flowing around and these people see it too as some of them live here but they are not doing anything about it.

Chitungwiza Municipality Public Relations Officer, Lovemore Meya, however, dismissed the allegations, saying the municipality is doing all it can to ensure it provides proper service delivery to its residents. Meya said:

“We are doing all we can under difficult circumstances. The issue of uncollected refuse stems from the unavailability of fuel and on sewer, it is because of the old equipment.

The subnational government has perennially been found wanting in areas such as sewer reticulation, garbage collection and provision of potable water.
