Police have arrested four people in separate operations targeting cross-border vehicle smuggling in Beitbridge and Plumtree.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said members of the Support Unit deployed in Beitbridge under Operation “No to Cross Border Crimes” arrested Korombi Muleya, 29, and Elelwanni Mbedzi, 36, on 18 October for allegedly smuggling a white Isuzu single-cab motor vehicle, registration number AED 4564.

Police said investigations established that the vehicle had been stolen during a robbery in South Africa before being smuggled into Zimbabwe.

In a second operation on the same day, members of the Support Unit deployed under the same operation in Plumtree arrested Toverengwa Mabwe, 31, and Last Ndlovu, 36, at Village 6, Mbwenda Business Centre, for allegedly smuggling a metallic blue Toyota Yaris.

The arrests form part of the ongoing Operation “No to Cross Border Crimes”, to curb smuggling and other cross-border offences along Zimbabwe’s borders.
