A security guard is believed to have been electrocuted after his body was found beneath a power transformer at Highfield Farm in Norton last week.

Trust Mudimu, 39, was employed as a guard at the farm. He left home for work on Wednesday and did not return.

At about 1 pm the following day, a tractor driver found his body lying beneath an electricity transformer in one of the fields. The matter was reported to the police.

In a statement, CID spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said preliminary investigations suggest Mudimu may have tampered with the transformer.

“Preliminary investigations revealed electric burn marks on the deceased’s body. Cut and loose copper wires were also found at the transformer, together with a pair of pliers, a knife and a torch. The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation,” she said.

She urged members of the public to desist from tampering with critical infrastructure, including electricity transformers, power lines and telecommunications equipment, and to promptly report any suspicious activities.

In a separate case, police have arrested Jonathan Banda, 26, Kudakwashe Madzora, 32, and Mondreck Banda, 20, in connection with the theft of copper cables at a farm in Murereka, Chinhoyi, on 8 October.

The three allegedly cut and stole 105 metres of 11-core copper cable from an irrigation pivot and then burnt it to remove the plastic insulation. Police have recovered the copper and the hacksaw used to cut it.
