Four Bulawayo men have been sentenced to an effective 10 years in prison after the Bulawayo Regional Magistrates’ Court convicted them of robbery.

Ayanda Ndebele (27), Alex Chayambuka (25), Justice Chayambuka (28) and Marshall Shumba (32) attacked a man outside the Manor Hotel, on the corner of 8th Avenue and Lobengula Street, at around 9 pm on 17 July 2026, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

They stabbed him twice in the stomach and once in the back of the head, then took his sling bag, which held US$3,200 in cash, his national identity card and his birth certificate, and fled.

The stomach wounds left the victim’s intestines protruding. An ambulance took him to Mpilo Hospital for treatment.

The attack was reported to the police, and their investigations led to the four men’s arrest.

After the conviction, the NPA warned people who commit violent crimes such as robbery that the long arm of the law will catch up with them and that they would be punished to the full extent of the law.
