Zimbabwe’s Under-23 national team, the Young Warriors, beat Mauritius 2-0 in the first leg of their 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualifier at the National Sports Stadium on Wednesday night.
David Chigwada and Nisbert Muzenda scored a goal in each half to seal the win, a week before Zimbabwe travel to Mauritius for the return leg next Wednesday.
The winner over the two legs will face Mali in the next round, with a place at the 2028 Olympics at stake.
Young Warriors coach Marc Sanchez said he was pleased with his side’s dominance.
“I think we dominated the match from the first minute to the last minute. I’m so happy with the job my players have done,” Sanchez said.
“We conceded just one shot on target in all 90 minutes, and that is never easy. I think we could have scored more goals. Going with that result to the next match is not definitive, so we will have to finish the job.”
