Raffingora man jailed 15 years for bedding 12-year-old “girlfriend”

A 34-year-old man from Mapondo Farm in Raffingora has been jailed for 15 years for raping a 12-year-old girl.

The Chinhoyi Regional Court heard that sometime in August 2026, the man met the Grade 6 pupil at Stick 1 at Mapondo Farm and proposed a romantic relationship with her.

On 18 September, he called her while she was in Chitungwiza for school and persuaded her to travel to Raffingora, offering to pay her bus fare. She left Chitungwiza without informing her mother.

On the evening of 20 September, he arranged to meet her. At about 7 pm, they met in a bush area where he raped her.

The offence came to light the same day when a family member discovered his messages on the victim’s phone and alerted relatives.

A police report was made and a medical examination conducted, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction.
