Zimbabwe’s annual inflation rose in September 2026, with both ZiG and US dollar prices edging higher, according to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZimStat).
The ZiG annual inflation rate increased to 3.7% in September 2026, up from 2.9% in August. US dollar annual inflation also rose to 3.5% from 3.1% in August.
Monthly, price pressures picked up as well. ZimStat said the ZiG month-on-month rate was 0.5% in September, up from 0.1% in August, while the USD month-on-month rate rose to 0.3% from 0.0%.
The weighted inflation rate, which blends ZiG and USD prices, followed the same trend. Weighted month-on-month inflation was 0.3% in September, up from 0.0% in August, while the weighted year-on-year rate stood at 3.6%, up from 3.2%.
ZimStat said rentals, fuel and utilities were the main drivers of the increase.
The rise comes despite relative stability of the ZiG since its introduction in 2024, on the back of a tight monetary policy stance.
Meanwhile, the cost of living continued to climb. The Food Poverty Line for one person – the amount needed to afford a daily minimum of 2,100 calories, based on the consumption basket of an extremely poor person – rose to ZiG 926.24 in September.
The Total Consumption Poverty Line for one person stood at ZiG 1,353.35.
