Motorists travelling on Bulawayo Road towards Harare city centre will be diverted on Monday, 28 September, as police prepare for heavy traffic around the National Sports Stadium ahead of Zimbabwe’s Africa Cup of Nations Group E qualifier against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

City of Harare Chief Traffic Officer, Chief Superintendent Martin Chimombe, said congestion is expected after roughly 30,000 fans purchased advance tickets for the evening match.

In a notice on Wednesday, 23 September, the City of Harare announced a temporary road closure and traffic diversion on the Harare-Bulawayo Road near the stadium, from 4 pm to 9 pm, to manage the anticipated volumes.

The carriageway towards the city centre will be closed to general motorists, who are advised to use alternative routes such as Solomon Mujuru Drive, formerly Kirkman. A police checkpoint at the intersection of Bulawayo Road and Harare Drive will restrict access to match officials and valid ticket holders only, with all other vehicles diverted onto Harare Drive towards Solomon Mujuru Drive.

Motorists leaving the city centre via the National Sports Stadium area will not be affected and may continue to use their normal route.
