A 27-year-old woman from Gokwe was allegedly robbed and gang-raped by three men in Harare after travelling to the capital in response to a job offer advertised on WhatsApp.

According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the woman had been lured to Harare after receiving the offer and was instructed to proceed to Kuwadzana. It was there, police say, that she was robbed of her valuables and gang-raped by three men.

Commissioner Nyathi said police are conducting comprehensive investigations to identify and apprehend the suspects.

Following the incident, the ZRP urged members of the public to exercise caution when responding to unsolicited job offers or engaging with strangers on social media, and to verify the identities and credentials of individuals offering employment or other services.
