The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has announced a scheduled nationwide outage of its electricity prepaid vending system on Sunday, 20 September 2026.

In a notice issued on Friday, 18 September 2026, the power utility said the system upgrade will run from 7 pm to midnight.

“ZETDC would like to advise its valued customers nationwide of a scheduled prepaid vending system upgrade on Sunday 20 September 2026 from 1900 hours to 0000 hours,” the company said.

During the five-hour window, all third-party vending platforms will be unavailable for token purchases. These include mobile money platforms, banks, supermarkets and online channels.

This means customers will not be able to purchase electricity tokens through any of the usual third-party outlets while the upgrade is in progress. Prepaid customers whose credit runs out during the period risk being left without electricity until the system is restored.

ZETDC has therefore advised customers to plan and purchase sufficient tokens to sustain them through the disruption.

“Customers are therefore advised to purchase sufficient electricity tokens to sustain them during the service disruption period,” the notice reads.

The utility apologised for the inconvenience caused.
