The Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) has instituted a Class II recall up to retail level of specified batches of Nifedipine 10mg tablets and Levodopa/Carbidopa tablets manufactured by Remedica Ltd of Cyprus.
In Circular No. 22 of 2026 issued last week, MCAZ Director-General Richard Rukwata said the recall follows confirmed Out-Of-Specification results identified by the manufacturer during ongoing stability testing.
The circular was addressed to all licensed pharmacies, wholesalers, public and private clinics and hospitals, and consumers.
According to the Authority, the recall affects two batches of Nifedipine 10mg tablets, namely batches 112033 and 117367. In these batches, a dissolution-profile failure was detected, predominantly affecting the early stages of dissolution, while the remaining stages were within specification. The product is manufactured by Remedica Ltd, based at Ahannon Street, Industrial Estate, Limassol, Cyprus.
The recall also covers four batches of Levodopa/Carbidopa 100mg/25mg tablets, being batches 97261, 102600, 102603 and 107232. For these tablets, an appearance change was observed, with the tablets changing from yellow to dark yellow or brownish at the end of their shelf life.
A further three batches of Levodopa/Carbidopa 250mg/25mg tablets are affected, being batches 99671, 102751 and 102752, where the appearance was observed to change from blue to yellowish green, in addition to recurring Out-Of-Specification results associated with a decrease in Carbidopa assay.
In light of the findings, MCAZ has directed all licensed pharmaceutical wholesalers, pharmacies, and public and private clinics and hospitals to immediately cease distribution and sale of the affected batches and to return all stock in their possession to the supplier.
Members of the public who may have the affected products in their possession have been advised to stop using them and to return them to the pharmacy or health facility from which they were obtained.
