ZESA (Private) Limited has announced the appointment of a new Board of Directors following the restructuring and consolidation of the ZESA Group into a single, vertically integrated electricity utility.

In a public notice, Group Legal Advisor & Corporate Secretary Tungamirai Chinhengo said that the new Board was appointed by its shareholder, the Mutapa Investment Fund, pursuant to General Notice 1193 of 2026, with effect from 1 April 2026.

The restructuring entails the consolidation of ZESA Holdings (Private) Limited, the Zimbabwe Power Company (Private) Limited (ZPC) and the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (Private) Limited (ZETDC) into one entity operating as ZESA (Private) Limited.

The Board is chaired by Albert Joel Nduna, with Ntokozo Mkandla as his deputy. The rest of the team is made up of Tawanda Ernest Denhere, Matilda Nyathi, Sugar Chagonda, Cassius Gambinga, Theresa Muchinguri, Nomusa Jowah and Nyasha Hazel Muvirimi.

Also on the Board are the two top executives. Cletus Nyachowe, who first joined ZESA back in 1988 and has been the acting CEO for some time, has now been confirmed as Group Chief Executive Officer. Alongside him is Jan Albert Obeholzer as Chief Operating Officer.

Obeholzer was COO at Eskom from 2018 to July 2023, right in the middle of South Africa’s severe load-shedding crisis that put serious pressure on him and then-CEO André de Ruyter.
