Three people died on the spot while six others, including the driver, were injured in a road traffic accident along the Mutare-Masvingo Road on Saturday.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the accident, which occurred at the 285 kilometre peg at around 5.40 PM on 22 August 2026.
In a statement, police said a motorist driving a Nissan March with eight passengers on board towards Mutare allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 285 kilometre peg along Mutare–Masvingo Road on 22/08/26 at around 1740 hours,” reads the statement.
“A motorist who was driving a Nissan March carrying eight passengers towards Mutare allegedly lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road to the right and struck a tree before overturning once.
“As a result of the crash, three passengers died on the spot, while six others, including the driver, sustained injuries.
“The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for postmortem examinations.”
