Police have appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of a truck driver who is wanted in connection with the illegal possession of unregistered medicines and dagga.

The suspect has been identified as Dzikamai Chimunda, 48, of Southlands Park, Harare.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Saturday, 15 August, said Chimunda was initially arrested during an anti-smuggling operation along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway.

According to the ZRP, officers conducting the operation stopped a Freightliner Argosy truck at the 120km peg on 5th August 2026.

A search was conducted on the vehicle, leading to the recovery of a large quantity of controlled substances.

The recovered items included 370 x 100ml bottles of Broncleer cough syrup, 120 x 100ml bottles of Astra cough syrup and approximately 20kg of dagga.

Chimunda was subsequently arrested, but allegedly escaped while being escorted to CID Drugs and Narcotics in Masvingo.

Commissioner Nyathi said the suspect jumped from the moving truck near the Nyanda area and disappeared into a nearby forest.
