The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has advised that the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls passenger train will this weekend terminate at Dete due to a line blockage at Mbarira.
The blockage follows a level crossing accident between Dete and Victoria Falls that has left the track impassable.
According to the NRZ, a locomotive fell on its side and is blocking the track after being slammed by a haulage truck at a level crossing. Efforts are underway to clear the track.
The NRZ said it will refund passengers proceeding to Victoria Falls who have been affected by the incident.
The parastatal said the accident was caused by the haulage truck driver trying to beat the train to the level crossing.
“The accident was due to the haulage truck driver trying to beat the train to the level crossing. NRZ urges motorists not to race trains at level crossings,” the statement said.
Motorists have repeatedly been warned to exercise extreme caution at level crossings, to stop and give way to trains, and never to attempt to race locomotives.
