A 28-year-old midwife based at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) is seeking financial assistance to undergo a kidney transplant.
Princess Robbie Zinge, a mother of one, is fighting for her life after lupus destroyed her kidneys, leaving her dependent on costly dialysis sessions.
Last week, she was admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital due to a build-up of excess fluid caused by her failing kidneys.
Zinge’s family said they are now trapped in a desperate race against time as they struggle to raise the US$20,000 required for a life-saving kidney transplant in India.
Her brother, Princely Pride Zinge, explained that the family has already exhausted its resources in their efforts to keep her alive.
“Princess now undergoes dialysis twice every week. Each week we spend about US$190 on dialysis alone. It is becoming impossible for us to keep up with these costs, but without dialysis she cannot survive,” said Princely.
“Our greatest hope is to have her undergo a kidney transplant. A family member has already volunteered to donate a kidney, but we still need compatibility tests before the operation can be done.”
He said Princess was diagnosed with lupus during her pregnancy and became bedridden due to complications in 2022.
Despite the challenges she faced, she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. However, in June this year, doctors diagnosed her with end-stage kidney failure.
The estimated US$20,000 will cover medical evaluations, donor compatibility testing, the transplant surgery, hospital care, medication, travel to India, and follow-up treatment before she can safely return home.
The Zinge family is appealing to well-wishers, churches, corporate bodies, and members of the public for donations to help save Princess’s life.
