South African-based Zimbabwean businessman and philanthropist Moreboys Munetsi has won a R5 million defamation case against social media user Louisa Jembe.
In a ruling delivered on 24 July 2026 in the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, under case number 2026-090944, Judge Mabaeng Masenyani Daisy Lenyai found that Jembe had defamed Munetsi.
The court declared that a statement published by Jembe on her Facebook handle Louisa Official 2 on 18 April 2026, in which she insinuated that Munetsi was involved in a fraudulent act, was defamatory, and that a video published on the same page on 19 April 2026 violated his dignity.
Judge Lenyai ordered Jembe to delete the publications from her Facebook handle or any other social media pages under her control within 48 hours of the order, and to clear all digital footprint by Sunday, 2 August.
“Having perused the papers filed of record and having heard counsel for the applicant, it is declared that she clears all the digital footprint by Sunday, 2 August,” said the judge.
“The statement published by the respondent on her Facebook handle (Louisa Official 2) on 18 April 2026, in which she insinuates that the applicant was involved in a fraudulent act, is defamatory.
“The video footage published by the respondent on her Facebook handle (Louisa Official 2) on 19 April 2026, in which she addresses the applicant, violates the applicant’s dignity.
“The respondent deletes the publications from her Facebook handle (Louisa Official 2) or any other social media pages controlled by her within 48 hours from the granting of the court order.”
She was also ordered to issue an unconditional public apology to Munetsi on her Facebook account by publishing a video retracting the defamatory and demeaning content published on 18 and 19 April, even if the posts had already been deleted by the time the order was granted.
Jembe was ordered to pay R300 000 in legal costs on a party-and-party scale, including costs of counsel.
Munetsi said if she fails to comply with the judgment, he will return to court on Monday to apply for contempt of court and request a warrant of arrest.
