A 21-year-old man from Domboshava was found dead in a parked car in Graniteside, Harare, in a suspected case of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The body of Jairos Nzvimba, of Mandaza Village, was discovered on Wednesday lying inside the vehicle with a charcoal stove next to him that was still producing heat and smoke.

Nzvimba, who owned Laxline Panel Beaters, is believed to have been warming himself after fixing the headlights of a client’s Toyota Quantum.

His assistant, Samuel Kasambwa, 26, said he left Nzvimba at around 9 pm on Tuesday, and found him unresponsive the following morning.

“He told me that he would sleep in one of the cars in the garage once he had finished fixing the headlights of the Toyota Quantum,” said Kasambwa.

“On Wednesday at around 0700 hours, I arrived at work and found him lying on his back across the driver’s and passenger’s seats of a white Honda Ballade which was also parked at the garage for repairs.

“I tried to wake him and realised that he was not showing any signs of life, covered with a blanket.”

The deceased’s body was taken to Sally Mugabe Hospital for post-mortem, and a report was made at Braeside Police Station under RRB 6940517.
