Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa and a group of his supporters were reportedly attacked by suspected ZANU PF youths at a lodge in Bulawayo on Sunday.

Chamisa was meeting a small group of supporters at the lodge when a group of men, reportedly travelling in a Honda Fit and wearing work suits, allegedly stormed the venue armed with machetes, axes, sjamboks and other weapons.

According to ZimLive, a source familiar with the incident described scenes of panic as the attackers allegedly targeted attendees and damaged vehicles at the venue, including Chamisa’s vehicle.

“Some jumped over walls, and others hid around the lodge. A Range Rover belonging to Patrick Cheza was badly damaged. I heard Chamisa’s trousers were torn,” the source said.

Cheza was the CCC losing candidate for Chirumanzu constituency in the August 2023 elections and is now regarded as part of Chamisa’s inner circle.

Amos Chibaya, one of Chamisa’s close allies, confirmed that he was in Bulawayo on the day but denied being at the lodge or being attacked, describing the claims as ZANU PF propaganda.

Chamisa was in Bulawayo to attend a memorial service for the late Ward 2 councillor Joyce Ndlovu at the Amphitheatre. The event went ahead without him, with only a small crowd in attendance.
