A 25-year-old man from Lubangwe in Hwange District, Matabeleland North, is recovering at Victoria Falls Hospital after being attacked by two lion cubs during the night.
Clement Sibanda sustained serious injuries to his face, back and hips and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Sibanda said he was returning from shops in Lubangwe at night when two lion cubs suddenly emerged from the bush and attacked him.
“I was coming from the shops at Lubangwe during the night when two lion cubs suddenly emerged from the bush and attacked me,” he said.
He said he managed to escape from the attack and climbed a tree for safety, but the cubs and their mother remained nearby until the early hours of the morning.
“I could hear the mother also roaring nearby before the three lions came and sat near the tree until around early morning,” Sibanda said.
Sibanda said he was forced to remain in the tree for several hours before eventually climbing down at around 7 am and seeking help.
