Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Member of Parliament Gift Banda has crossed the floor to join ZANU-PF, reported the Sunday News.
Banda, who also served as Bulawayo’s deputy mayor, was paraded as a new ZANU-PF member during a Matabeleland South Thank You Rally in Gwanda following the passing of Constitutional Amendment Act No. 3.
He was received by Politburo members Richard Ndlovu and Abedinico Ncube, Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Albert Nguluvhe, who is also the ZANU PF provincial vice-chairman, and the party’s provincial chairman Mangaliso Ndlovu, who is also Minister of Industry and Commerce.
Speaking at the event, Banda declared his full support for ZANU PF and Constitutional Amendment No. 3, saying it would help drive the political and economic development the country needs.
He said his decision to join ZANU PF was motivated by a desire to contribute to the national vision of transforming Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.
In recent years, several opposition figures have joined ZANU PF, among them Blessing Chebundo, who famously defeated President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the 2000 elections in Kwekwe, Collins Tsvangirai, brother of the late MDC founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai, Witness Dube and Gift Konjana.
